Israel Trip Highlights

We leave Israel tonight!  It has been a wonderful time to be in the Holy Land.  Here are some highlights from my trip:

Monopoly (in Hebrew!!).  Our family does not have a set, though my siblings and I play it at friends' houses sometimes.  I had to try to recall how Monopoly was played and guess our way around the board.  I could only read a word or two on the "community chest" and "chance" cards ("lose" and "win"), so we had to take a couple of them out of the deck when I couldn't figure out what was written on it.

Popcorn popped the "old-fashioned way"--on the stovetop!  The previous residents of our rented apartment left a bag of popcorn kernels in the cabinet (my family usually doesn't buy popcorn).

The gigantic sand volcano my siblings built at a beach next to the Mediterranean Sea.

Eggs!  What a treat since I don't get them often (my brother is severely allergic to them).

Delicious chocolate-covered ice cream (40 shekels a box; there are 60 per box)

Another delicious treat.  This one is covered with chocolate, and the inside is filled with a marshmallow-caramel tasting substance atop a cracker.

Yesterday evening we were invited by a professor whom my dad collaborates with to dinner at Max Brenner's Chocolate Bar in Tel Aviv right next to the port!  I ordered a "breakfast for dinner" Classic Breakfast and the food was delicious!  Dessert was the best, though.

I had a superb time in Israel!  I'll miss it here and everyone whom I've met.  I hope to be back someday, and may Israel and the Jewish nation be blessed.

Praise the L-RD!  Amen and amen.

The National Bible Bee Competition ( www.biblebee.org ) this year took place in San Antonio, Texas, November 16-20.  My sister and I were competing in the Junior division and my two younger siblings in the Primary division. My family drove across two states to Texas in our eight-passenger van packed with our personal belongings and a good amount of cookware (my brother has severe allergy to soy, eggs, milk, nuts, and peanuts, so we have to cook all his food).  We took a one-night stop in El Paso before continuing on to San Antonio. Welcome in Israel

We left for Tel Aviv, Israel early one morning.  Our flight was at noon. Right before we checked in our baggage and got our boarding passes, a representative from the ElעלAlאל Airlines (Israeli) asked us a few questions about where we were going in Israel, why we were going, what we'd do, where we'd stay, etc. and about our check-in baggage.  After the bags were packed had they passed through hands other than ours?  Had anyone asked us to deliver/take something to Israel for them?  Were there any weapons in our belongings? After we answered these questions the representative took a piece of paper from a stack, wrote something on it, and circled one of the four letters printed on the top of the paper.  We wondered what it meant. Through & Around the Old City

Our apartment in Jerusalem is a few minutes' walk from Jaffa (aka Yafo) Gate and 10-15 minutes from the Western Wall (known as haKotel , the Wall, in Hebrew). The men's side of the Wall.  A security check is required before entrance.  On Friday night the Wall is crowded with people celebrating the arrival of Shabbat!  It is truly a wonderful experience to be there with the celebration. There are tours of the Western Wall tunnels (to the left of the entrance; close to the Netivaryeh, a yeshiva)--each about an hour and a half. The Golden Gate.  It has been sealed up (as prophesied in the Bible) by the Muslims to prevent the Messiah from entering in during His second coming.  This is also the gate Yeshua (Jesus) entered through on a colt, the foal of a donkey. .
